NORDAKADEMIE was the first private university to be founded and funded directly by industry. What is also unique is the fact that the university is supported by a non-profit making, public limited company. The shareholders of this company include 43 well-known companies and NORDMETALL, the employers' association for the metal and electrical industry in Northern Germany. The company operates exclusively in the interests of its students and partner enterprises.
When the NORDAKADEMIE was founded in 1992 it received a temporary acceptance from the Ministry of Science of the Land Schleswig-Holstein. After a successful evaluation by the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat) in 1996 the NORDAKADEMIE received a permanent acceptance by the state.
More than 500 companies collaborate with the university in the areas of
- Research – practice-oriented projects taken directly from the world of business
Two of the dominating features of NORDAKADEMIE are the real-life concepts devised in collaboration with industry and the excellent conditions for studying, verified by top places in the rankings for Germany. The wide range of optional courses, foreign languages, seminars, semesters abroad, lectures on corporate practices and excursions offers students numerous opportunities for consolidation and specialisation.
NORDAKADEMIE’s concept based on business practice is a success - companies can have the university train the “most talented young people from their own ranks” and graduates from NORDAKADEMIE have above-average chances on the labour market.
